Okay, hear me out.
I know it’s a big, wild dream — but sometimes I find myself daydreaming about what it would be like if the Amber and Jonas books were turned into a film. Or even better… a series. Something raw, real, and full of the weirdly specific chaos that follows Amber, Jonas, Daisy and co. around like an awkward emotional support dog.
Would it ever happen? Who knows. But dreaming is free. And in this version of reality, I get to call the shots — and no, Daisy, that does not mean you can direct.
📚 Based on the Books, Please
This isn’t some loose “inspired by” version where they strip all the soul out and give everyone American accents. No thanks. I want the film to stick close to the actual books — messy mental health journeys, complicated friendships, autistic chaos and all. Real stakes. Real awkwardness. Real growth.
And real Daisy, obviously. Though I do fear for the film rating if she’s left unfiltered.
🎭 Who Plays Who?
I don’t have a full dream cast yet (though you know I’ve thought about it at 3am), but here’s what I know:
- Amber needs to be played by someone who gets the subtle stuff — the masking, the shutdowns, the way she feels everything but doesn’t always show it.
- Jonas needs that balance of charisma and underlying sadness. The kind of guy you want to hug and tell off.
- Daisy? Pure chaos energy. Think young Helena Bonham Carter meets a girl who’s been banned from six different group chats.
Got actor ideas? Drop them in the comments. Or text me at 2am, I’ll be awake anyway.
🎧 The Soundtrack Slaps
You know the film would be packed with nostalgic bangers:
- “Video Killed the Radio Star” — obviously.
- Spice Girls, because I am that girl.
- A little JLS for serotonin.
- “Peaches” from Mario — if Daisy has anything to say about it.
And maybe some sad girl indie for the heavy moments. Gotta balance the vibes.
🎥 How It Would Look
Visually, I’m thinking something like Fleabag meets This Is Going to Hurt.
- Honest. Stylised but grounded.
- Flashbacks. Voiceovers.
- Maybe the occasional fourth wall break… especially when Daisy’s about to do something reckless and wants to warn the audience (or not).
Let’s be real, she’d use the camera like it was her therapist.
📝 Why It Matters
This dream isn’t just about seeing my stories on screen (though that would be incredible). It’s about showing characters like us — autistic, anxious, chaotic, complex — actually existing in media. Not side characters. Not token neurodivergents. Not punchlines.
Real, messy main characters. Living. Growing. Screwing up and trying again.
💬 Over to You…
What do you think? Would you watch the Amber and Jonas movie? Who would you cast? What scenes need to make it in?
Also, if anyone knows any producers… call me. Let’s make chaos cinematic.
🩷 Asten
P.S. Daisy says she wants full creative control. I said no. She’s sulking.
P.P.S. Want to meet Amber, Jonas, and Daisy properly? The Amber and Jonas books are available now on Amazon — search my name or just shout “DAISY” into the void and she’ll probably appear. 😉
