Sometimes the biggest chapters in our lives start quietly. With a last-minute decision. A friend’s suggestion. A twist you never saw coming.
For me, it started with Movie Camp.
I hadn’t even planned to go. My best friend Sadie — who I miss every single day — was going, and I wanted to be with her. That was all the reason I needed. It was a bit of a scramble; they’d run out of beds, but they told me I could still come along each day if I wanted.
So I did. And it ended up being one of the most unforgettable weeks of my life.
🎥 Lights, Camera, Chaos
Movie Camp was exactly what it sounds like — a place where a bunch of teenagers made short films, bonded over creative chaos, and basically lived out our own behind-the-scenes comedy.
I honestly couldn’t tell you the full plot of every film we made — they were wild. I vaguely remember:
- A gangsta one (yes, really),
- A pirate one (complete with some very questionable accents), and
- A dinosaur one (don’t ask how — we made it work).
It was messy, hilarious, and completely joyful. We spent our days planning, filming, laughing, probably forgetting half the lines, and definitely making memories we had no idea would stick with us forever.
💞 Then Came Myron
And then, there was Myron.
We clicked. Not in a dramatic, love-at-first-sight kind of way — just this easy, natural connection. We made each other laugh. We got each other. Amid all the silliness and chaos, something real was happening between us.
Just a week after Movie Camp ended — three days before my 18th birthday — we became a couple.
🌟 A Bittersweet Beginning
I’m so glad Sadie encouraged me to come along. She was the kind of person who lit up every room — Movie Camp included. Losing her at 22 was devastating. But I’ll always be grateful to her for that week. Without her, I might never have gone. I might never have met Myron. And I wouldn’t have the love story I do now.
💖 The Story That Keeps Going
Fifteen years later, Myron and I are engaged.
We’re getting married on 31st August 2030 — twenty years to the day since we first got together.
It’s surreal to think it all started with a bunch of teens messing around with video cameras. But it did. That week changed everything — gave me friendship, memories, love… and a lifelong appreciation for pirate films made on zero budget.
Movie Camp will always have a special place in my heart.
